Specialised visual aid counselling (low vision)

Low vision refers to a visual impairment in which a person still has difficulty seeing adequately despite correction with glasses, contact lenses or other visual aids. There can be various causes of low vision, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy. People with very poor vision may have difficulty recognising details, perceiving contrasts or recognising things at a distance or close up. It is important to note that these symptoms can vary from person to person and require individual adaptations and aids to make everyday life easier.

The most important aids include special optical magnifying glasses, which, together with medical lamps specially developed for these conditions, provide a great deal of help. If light sensitivity has developed, specific glass tints (edge filters) are used to filter out certain wavelengths of light in order to achieve better orientation and avoid glare.

However, it is often the case that these are no longer sufficient, especially with advanced disease.

This is where electronic magnifiers come into play, such as the eMag 50 HD from Schweizer Optik or the Visiolux digital HD from Eschenbach Optik. These or similar models are available in different sizes depending on requirements and use as mobile or stationary devices.

But even customers with very low vision, e.g. less than 10%, can find a solution from us in the form of reading devices, electronic magnifiers with a read-aloud function or intelligent camera systems such as the OrCam-myEye, which is able to recognise printed texts, banknotes, faces and much more, and then reproduce the content verbally.

In certain professions in the fields of medicine, construction or criminology, in the hobby sector such as philately and numismatics, these devices also help to visualise or transfer everything in optimum detail.

Our staff, who are specifically trained for these situations, will be happy to help you solve problems relating to these visual aids.

We look forward to seeing you!
